Given the constant plague of viruses the Wintel platform has encountered over the past few months, many users are switching to the Apple Mac OS X operating system. During the first quarter of this year, Apple sold 47% more Macs than in the year ago period, roughly about 1.09 million units.
Merrill Lynch did an on-site survey of retail stores to see how sales of PCs are faired in the month of April. Their findings indicate that the industry was largely lagging, but they did note the following:
----------------------------------------
"At the Best Buy outlets that Merrill visited, weeks of desktop inventory declined in April while remaining flat for notebooks. Activity levels "remained extremely high" at Apple Computer (nasdaq: AAPL - news - people ) retail stores Merrill visited. "

Just last week, new Intel CEO Paul Otellini mentioned the security concerns that he has to personally deal with every week at last week's Wall Street Journal All Things Digital conference:
" Pressed about security by WSJ technology reporter, Walt Mossberg, Mr Otellini had a startling confession: He spends an hour a weekend removing spyware from his daughter's computer. And when further pressed about whether a mainstream computer user in search of immediate safety from security woes ought to buy Apple Computer Inc.'s Macintosh instead of a Wintel PC, he said, "If you want to fix it tomorrow, maybe you should buy something else." "

Given that I've had to deal with FOUR viruses on my network already this year (combined downtime = two weeks!), I am seriously considering moving to the Mac platform and what I will use as my accounting program is up in the air. I doubt I could get anything as good as Peachtree, in terms of not having to learn something else.
Several of the manufacturing guys in the business I know use a package called AcctVantage (http://www.acctvantage.com/) and like it enough. But the only thing is I don't like the price! Quickbooks for Mac is out of the question; just not powerful enough.
Seeing that Macs have made significant pricing declines over the past few years, for exampe $600 for just the box and $1,200 per an entire unit with a display, it's becoming to be one of the more lucrative options.
Do you think that Peachtree should offer a Mac version?
I've already made my opinion heard:
