Dear All

Peachtree has release their demo for Peachtree 2006.

http://www.peachtree.com/download/trial.cfm

I download and test run and found out there are not much improvment on the software features. More on Windows Enhancement and display improvement only.

Any New improvment that you guys know on this release.

Are there still using Btrieve 6.15 database. I think Sage will upgrade the database before the release of Longhorn.

I looked at the flash demo on the website and was thoroughly unimpressed.

It seems dumb in the first place that 2005 didn't have the ability to print a report showing assembly items and costs. We figured out how to get the info we need with 2 reports.

To basically buy the software all over again just for minor improvements? No thanks, we'll wait til 2007.

So what you're saying is they won't upgrade the database for a long, long time? :)

Longhorn has been pushed back so much I had to comment.

Peachtree has used Btrieve 6.15 forever and that version of Btrieve has been obsolete for several years, so it is not surprising that it might not play well with Longhorn. The rumors are that Peachtree has been working on upgrading their database system for a couple of years now. Apparently they did a lot of special coding in the early days that is not compatible with newer versions, so they have had to basically rewrite all the code that uses Btrieve, and that accounts for the long delays.

We expected to see something different with the 2006 release, but it still uses the same old Btrieve 6.15. However, I'll bet we will see some new underpinings next year. The question is what will they be switching to. The most logical choice would be simply the latest version of Btrieve included with Pervasive software. (Sage is listed as a partner on Pervasive's web site.) But there are also rumors that they may be switching to something completely different. Only time will tell.

Somewhere I saw a write up about this years Sage users conference and Ron Verni announced that Peachtree would be switching to the Pervasive SQL database with the 2007 version. If you presently have Pervasive SQL now, it Peachtree appears to run OK on it, but of course it's not supported.

Pervasive SQL is built on top of Btieve. If they go the Pervasive route, the question is whether they will be calling Btrieve directly or doing higher level operations at the SQL level.
