I currently use 2003 Complete.

Accountant that is helping me is using 2004.

Situation: I take a backup, xmit to the accountant who restores to 2004, makes some changes, creates a backup, xmits it to me. 2003 does't accept backup during restore. Doesn't appear that 2004 can create a 2003 format file.

As expected it seems that later versions handle prior versions okay.

Just wondering if I upgrade to 2005 complete/pro, will 2003 files be converted correctly and will I be able to create backup in the 2004 format for use by accountant?

If you're both going to be working on the same file, you're both going to need the same version. You can probably find a copy of 2004 on E-bay.

If you upgrade to 2005, you'll have the same issue with him being on 2004. Or, you could both upgrade to 2005.

The file will upgrade to 2005 from either 2003 or 2004 with no problem.

At this point you'd want to upgrade to Peachtree 2006 (instead of 2005). You'll gain numerous new features by doing so.
