This is some what a continuation from my previous post. Different client, different problem, same "If it isn't broke, don't fix it" scenario.

I have a client that's running DOS v11 without many problems. They have about 5 users (figure 3 simultaneous). I'm looking to get a few new computers with Windows XP and was wondering what problems I may run into with v11.

My concerns for not just taking them to Complete Windows are as follows:

1. We do have a couple of old MODS (i.e. 3 decimal digits for the quantity) from Software Professionals that are being used.

2. Total number of transactions. About 1000 customers and 5000 invoices per year. Runs fine under v11, but I'm not convinced it will run as well with Complete Accounting for Windows. Another client is running v6 with half the customers/transactions and it doesn't seem as "snappy."

Any thoughts????

I agree with your belief. Not to trace after technology in a blind way! As far as you satisfy with the DOS version, that's fine.

I agree DOS programs can run more efficiently than Windows version. If you're planning to Windows XP platform, it's good to try it in a test station first before real implementation. In theory, it works.

Hi,

I agree with Jacky completely.

But to tell you the truth I had serious problems using Peachtree DOS under Windows XP. The program runs too damn slow.

While Peachtree Tech and many other users said that it's possible to run Peachtree DOS under Win XP, I tend to disagree with that because it's slowness is unberable.

As Jacky said... test before you implement it.

On the otherside, while Peachtree Complete Accounting wasn't designed for heavy accounting I think it could work for you. The definition of heavy accounting is somewhat loose. I have tested/used all three versions of Peachtree (Classic DOS, Peachtree Complete Accounting and Peachtree 2000) for many years and I have found they can handle large accounting loads with relative ease. My favorite is Peachtree 2000 (not 2002, which is a completely different program) which was supossedly designed as a heavy duty accounting system. I have 3000+ customers, 4000+ Invoices/Month and 11 branches so I know what i'm talking about.

Any questions I will be more than happy to help.

Bye,

Thanks for your suggestions.

When running peachtree for DOS under XP, did you run it in full screen mode (if you can under XP)?

I ran into this problem with Windows 2000. It was running unbearably slow. When I switch to full screen (Alt+Enter) mode it ran smooth again.
