Need to start 2002-not done with 2000 - Any suggestions?

I am a new 2002 user. We are not finished entering all of 2000 but would like to use PT for 2002 current Invoices etc. Since only 2 years can be open we have a problem. Any suggestions?

Can't imagine how you could be in that situation, but here goes:

I would first run a trial balance for YE 2000 and keep it to compare to a trial balance after all the 2000 entries are entered.

Then backup all the 2000 files, make a new company (doesn't matter how you answer the questions--you will be restoring the just backed-up file over it anyway), restore the 2000 files to the new company. Go back to the old company and change the name to "company name" FYE2000 (for instance) to differentiate it from the current files. Now you can update the new company to the year 2002.

After 2000 entries are all made in the "company name" FJY2000 company, run a new trial balance, compare it to the previous TB and make journal entries for the differences as of 1/1/01 in the new company (which has been updated to 2002).

I hope I didn't leave anything out.
