The original chart of accounts was set up by a previous manager. I am now at the point where I want to make some changes so the general ledger makes more sense (and make customizing reports alot easier!) However, there doesn't seem to be a way to change to GL number in Peachtree (like changing a customer/vendor) Does anyone know of a workaround so I can make changes to the GL and still preserve my transaction details?
Thank's for any input.

You can't change G/L ID's the way you can Customer and Vendor ID's. If you are wanting to change Sales and Expense accounts, just make the changes at the beginning of a fiscal year and start using the new accounts.
If you want to change Balance Sheet accounts, you will need to create Journal Entries at the beginning of a year and make the transfers between the old and new accounts. Once that year is closed, make the old accounts inactive. Eventually, when the old transactions are not included in the current fiscal 2 years, you can purge them.
Notice in both cases I said at the BEGINNING of a fiscal year. Never try to do this in mid-year.
You may also have to make changes to your financial statements if you do any summarizing of accounts.
