Hi,
I'm new to Peachtree; rolling over from QuickBooks. I have pre-printed checks. The checks I have printed has the following information pre-printed on them already:
Company name
Address
Bank Name
Address
Chk #
Pay to the order of
$ (for number amount of check)
blank space for written amout
Memo
Bank Account number
It is a 2 stub pre-printed check with both stubs at the bottom.
The stubs only have the company name and chk# pre-printed on them.
Question: How do I create a form in Peachtree to continue using my pre-printed forms....I don't want to have to toss all these pre-printed checks..........anybody have any ideas?

This is a task for those that like very tedious work and have a knowledge of desktop publishing. I use my old Quicken checks that print 3 checks per laser page. I had to create 3 different forms to use each page, but since I am only printing a few checks at a time it's okay.
Select an existing form and then move the fields where you need them. Look out for the commands also and make sure that you put the detail lines in the correct order. As I said - it is verrrrrrrrry tedious because Peachtree does not use standard draw functions such as selecting a group of objects and moving then together. Watch out for alignments too. The granularity with Snap to Grid on is poor and nonexistent with Snap to Grid.
I always do the form design for my clients since the knowledge is very specialized and rarely used. That way they never have to throw out those old forms.

That's what I thought..........all the work though, what a bummer! I really have no idea what the "Commands," "detail lines" and "alignments" are......I think I can figure it out though thru trial and error. Bummer, that sucks.

The problem is the trial and error may cost you big time in the long run. What version of Peachtree are you running? Maybe it's time to call in an expert?

Yep!
I think you are right.....we might just end up shredding the pre-printed checks and submitting to the Peachtree layouts and get newly printed checks/forms. We are almost down to the last bit anyway. I was just hoping it was easy to fix the forms in Peachtree. So much for that idea.
Thank you very much for your input and quick reply! :)

I am investigating the same topic for Peachtree First Accounting. In the form tab there seem to be the option for designing forms but there are no design buttons for moving fields. Can snyone point me in the correct direction?
Thanks

There are no Move buttons. You click on the field and drag it to the new location. Optionally, you can go into the Properties of the object and set the Top and Left positions manually. The Properties are access different ways in different versions. Some include a button in the Design Status bar and others allow you to right-click the object to bring up the shortcut menu. Be careful!!! You can really mess up the Commands if you don't know what you are doing. I've been doing this for years and just redesigned a check. I have to go fix it because it is printing the first line twice now.

Email me at dkoers@home.com. I have the check form already designed. (It's the one I use) I'll send it to you. What version of Peachtree?

Daine,
Thanks for the offer. The version we are using is Peachtree First Accounting v 7.0.
I a trying to modify the standard form to print in a check at the bottom 1/3 of a 8 1/2 x 11 in page. ie check at the bottom.
I think it is really strange that the form designer is available but I can not move the fields. No buttons and cannot drag the existing fields.
Thanks,
DJC
