I am not able to log onto Peachtree 2005 remotely. I was able to do this with our previous version. Someone recommended GOTOMYPC.COM. Does anyone know if this will work. I am going overseas for three weeks and need to be able to logon. Thanks

GoToMyPC would work fine - you'll want a fast internet connection on both sides if you don't want to pull your hair out.
Another option, if you have Windows XP is remote desktop. I've seen people use it, but have no clue how to set it up. Do you have a "computer guy" you can ask?

GoToMyPC (http://www.gotomypc.com) works great as long as you have a fast connection to the Internet at your office and wherever you're logging in at.

Make sure you have a reliable connection before working on your file. I connected to my company's LAN via VPN last summer. I would lose connection at times. I ended up corrupting my file and it cost $$ to get it fixed. From that point I merely used the VPN connection to retrieve the files from the LAN and I would replace them when I was done.

When travelling I have found it much more reliable to load PT onto a laptop-set it up with a back up and then back up laptop work and reload that to the home machine when home. I did use the free logmein.com for remote access-but it's slower than direct work and if your home machine crashes or shuts off for any reason you have to get someone to turn it back on.

I used to use PC Anywhere for remote access and found that performance over dial-up was significantly improved if you set it to only use gray-scale and only refresh changed parts of the screen. It's been years so they may have changed those features but it was one of PC Anywhere's big advantages as other remote solutions did not allow for these bandwidth saving measures.

I use remote desktop...you need to have XP Pro on the machine you want to connect to although you can use XP Home on the machine you are calling from.
On dialup it's very sloooooooww. I find the connection speed using motel lines with a ATT calling card to be between 14.4 and 28.8. I use it mostly for email with Outlook. I wouldn't recommend it for Peachtee unless you only need to do a small amount of work.
I do however love it with a remote connection over Wi-Fi. Using an external antenna I have a link between two buildings about 800 feet apart with a connection speed of
11-30Mbps.
With this setup the speed is very close to the same as being at the remote computer.
This setup will not work however if you want to have simultaneous use on both machines

PC Anywhere uses a lot of your system resources and tends to make the computer system slow. An alternative to PC Anywhere is by using Real VNC. This is a free program and can be downloaded at www.realvnc.com
Should a multi-user remote desktop (RDP) to a single Windows XP machine, suggest that you install WinConnect XP. This allows terminal services (without Windows 2000 or 2003 server) for up to 3 users. Trial version of WinConnect can be found at www.thinsoftinc.com

I have a question about the Remote Desktop. We are using Complete Accouting 2007 and when the user remotes in, it gives the message that they have to upgrade to Premium. Is there a workaround for this? The reason that we thought to use RDC was so that they could print locally. Any suggestins? Thanks!

Only premium or quantum allows remote access through Terminal services and I believe XP. You can always have your IT people set up a VPN (Virtual Private Network) connection or use GoToMyPc and the like.

Hi Jen I found the workaround with Remote Desktop is PT has to be up and running on PC you log into. prior to PT2006 This was not an issue but since UG to 06 I got same terminal service error.
