Is changing from 2004 Premium Accounting to 2006 Complete considered an UPgrade?

I have a client using the 2004 Premium version that wants to update to the 2006 version, but they really don't need the Premium version, Complete has enough features for them.

If a purchase an "Upgrade" to 2006 Complete will the new program convert their existing Premium data files properly?

The data will not convert automatically from Premium 2004 --> Complete 2006.

There may be a consultant here that could assist with such a project.

To move from Peachtree Premium 2004 to Premium 2006 would be an upgrade to a newer version but otherwise one could call it a lateral move. If you could move Peachtree Premium 2004 to PCW2006 that would be a downgrade and as such Peachtree will not convert the data files due to incompatiblity issues. If your client insisted in downgrading while moving to an newer version, you would have to export the current vendor, customer, coa, inventory etc. lists, and related journals by date range. Then you would setup a new company shell in Peachtree Complete 2006 and import the lists, journals. After the import, you would then have to enter beginning balances or adjustments to bring your accounting into balance with the current values. Or simply import lists and key in new beginning balances.

In short, you cannot downgrade the program as you move to a newer version and to attempt to do so will require a great deal of work, and frustration. It makes NO ECONOMIC SENSE to even think about moving to Peachtree Complete 2006 from Peachtree Premium 2004.
