I have a theater group that sponsors or performs approximately five productions each year. For each production, we want approximately 35 accounts, some income accounts and some expense accounts. I have the accounts structured as I want, but I am looking for a procedure that doesn't require that I add another 35 accounts to the chart of accounts for each new production.

What I am trying to do is to set up numeric accounts so that the first three digits indentify the appropriate account, the next two digits identify the year, and the sixth digist identifies the performance. I want to keep the chart of accounts sparse yet be able to make entries without hving to actually add to the existing chart of accounts.

Can Peachtree handle a schema like: 137XXYY, where 137 identifies a particular revenue or expense account, XX functions as a variable identifying the year and YY identifying the production. In other words, can I set up thirty five or so general accounts ("general accounts" may not be the proper terminology but that's the best I can do) and then generate new accounts on the fly without actually enteiring the account as a new entry when either writing checks or making General Journal entries.

For example, I want to be able to enter 1370501 and 1370502 while having only 137XXYY in the chart of accounts.

I am guessing that your reasoning for doing this is to keep track of how much you make on each show.

Instead of doing all these G/L's, I would enter each show as a Job, and use job cost.
