Credit card returns & bank recs

I thought I was doing this correctly, but when I went to do this month's bank rec, I can see that I'm not. When we credit a customer's credit card for returned items, the amount is showing up as a withdrawal from our checking account, which would be accurate, BUT the credit card batch in the deposit portion of the bank rec ,already reflects the credited amount.

Can someone PLEASE tell me all of the steps involved when handling a return from a customer where we credit their credit card for the return - and tell me exactly how it affects the bank rec. THANKS

I do credit card refunds as negative receipts, so it gets netted with the batch.
