  • PT 2011 won't run

I have three users on a network with data running on an SBS2003 server.
My computer, XP Pro, 2 GB RAM, stopped running PT. I see network activity, but I get "program not responding", when I try to run it.

I've deleted PT and re-installed it, still no joy.

    Other workstations are OK.

    Any suggestions ???

This error is typically due to a communication failure with Windows and as such is commonly related to Security Software causing conflicts.

Try disabling your Security Software (Anti-Virus and Firewall including Windows Firewall) and then test again. You can then configure all Firewall security programs to allow Peachtree and Pervasive Software EXE files to pass. You can configure your AV software to exclude Peachtree and Pervasive Software program folder as well as Peachtree data folders on the Server from the Active Scans.

I've entirely removed all AV programs, I've set the Windows firewall to allow all exe programs in the pervasive/bin directory as well as peachw.exe.
      Still no joy.
      Any other suggestions ?

Are you on a stand alone or network? Check your SHARE and SECURITY Settings on the Shared Program / data folder.

Be sure to use FULL Permissions for both the Share and Security for both groups Everyone and System in the case of a network.

If this is a simple Peer to Peer Network, change the host computer Simple Share Options (a Windows Configuration setting).

          PT2011 won't run

          That did cure the problem.
What I don't understand is why other computers on the network DIDN'T have this problem.
          It's a puzzle....

I have found this behavior to often be caused by another process that is running. Restart your computer in safe mode with network support, and then try. If it opens (though it will be extremely large fints and images) this indicates that there is a process loading in normal start up that is causing the issue.

                No Joy
Even in safe mode with networking, PT won't come up running

                Any other thoughts ???

For no apparent reason, it started working again.

                  I'M CONFUSED !!!!

I have been dealing with Peachtree for 15 years, 4 of which I worked there, now a certified consultant, and I still scratch my head at things. It is not just Peachtree though, it seems to be many PC based softwares that sometimes have odd behavior that we never find out why.

Glad it is working for you.

Consider modifying the list of SERVICES (non Microsoft Services) and STARTUP' as listed in the Windows MSCONFIG file. Click on START & RUN, type MSCONFIG and click OK or press Enter. Under SERVICES Tab, click on the box at the bottom center labeled "HIDE MS SERVICES" and then consider disable all. Repeat under STARTUP Tab, however, there is no HIDE MS Startups. Simply click DISABLE ALL.

If the problem goes away, then return to the same file and selecting check off one or more SERVICES to run again, following a reboot. Later do the same for the STARTUPS List untill you find the offending program.

                            Rick and Tom:

Turns out it may have been a faulty 1 foot patch cable between the patch panel and switch.

I noticed that my outlook seemed to be disconnecting from the server, requiring me to log into the mail server repeatedly.

Didn't seem to affect thing like wordprocessing or internet access, just database driven systems.

Replaced the damn cable and haven't had a problem since.
                            Go figure......

                            Thanks for your assistance.
