Restore backup

I have Peachtree 2003 Complete- am attempting to restore from client backup ( a ptb file) - Set up shell company in Complete 2003 to restore to - get message that backup file is not a Peachtree file. If backup is from later version of Peachtree will this cause this problem??

If your client us using Peachtree Complete and you are using Peachtree Account, it will give this error as well as if your client is using 2004 or 2005.

Appreciate reply - But still cannot restore - any suggestions on how to get data restored from this backup? Is it absolute that I must know the Peachtree program(including version) that created the backup??

You can try opening the .PTB file with WinZip, or change the .PTB to .ZIP. If you're able to open the file, you can extract the contents to a folder in your Peachtree directory.

You are correct. If the backup is from a later version of peachtree, you will get this error. If you unzip it with winzip, let us know what is in the version.txt, (11.02, 12.00, etc.) and we can tell you the version.

The version.txt appears to be 14.01 - Does this indicate the version??

Hello There,

I'm showing 14.02 also but I'm running 2005. What's going on? I think(?) if Milton upgrades to 2005 it won't make any difference what older model he upgrades from, '05 will handle it.

Good Luck

I keep multiple versions on my computer. I looked in my company data for 2004 and picked a company. I just looked at a 2005 company and the version.txt is 15.02.

Milton's problem is that he has 2003 and that will not restore a backup from 2004 or 2005.
